Vice President Operational Accounting

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced finance and accounting executive to lead operational accounting, financial reporting, and portfolio accounting activities for a large, multi-entity real estate operating portfolio. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory and internal control requirements, overseeing joint venture and third-party operator relationships, and driving process improvements across the accounting function.

The Vice President will collaborate closely with senior leadership, Asset Management, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Investments, and other cross-functional teams to provide financial insights, enhance reporting processes, and support strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing operational accounting team.
  • Establish strategic goals and initiatives that align with organizational objectives.
  • Drive process improvements, automation efforts, and scalable accounting solutions.
  • Promote best practices, consistency, and efficiency across accounting operations and financial reporting processes.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for operating entities and joint ventures.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), public company reporting standards, and internal control requirements.
  • Support external reporting activities and coordinate with auditors and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to ensure accuracy, transparency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide oversight of financial performance reporting, including:
    • Balance sheet and income statement analysis
    • Cash flow reporting and forecasting
    • Capital expenditure tracking and reporting
    • Operational and financial performance metrics
  • Analyze portfolio and property-level financial results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Partner with business leaders to improve operational performance and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Prepare and present financial analyses and recommendations to senior management.

Partnership & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage financial reporting relationships with third-party operators, business partners, and joint venture stakeholders.
  • Review financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Coordinate preparation and delivery of financial reporting packages for investors, partners, and leadership teams.
  • Support the financial integration, onboarding, and ongoing oversight of acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Progressive accounting and financial reporting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience within a public company environment strongly preferred.
  • Real estate, healthcare, senior living, hospitality, or other multi-location operating portfolio experience preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to perform complex financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines and driving results.
