The Vice President, Finance - System Controller is a key executive leader responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and strategic value of the health system’s financial information. This role oversees corporate accounting, financial reporting, and financial systems optimization , ensuring that accurate accounting and financial reporting support organizational performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability.
The VP partners closely with the SVP/CFO, hospital finance leaders, operational executives, and system leadership to drive financial clarity, strengthen internal controls, and enhance the organization’s analytical and reporting capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Financial Stewardship
- Provide executive leadership for corporate finance functions, ensuring alignment with system strategy, financial goals, and operational priorities.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the SVP/CFO and senior leadership on financial performance, risks and opportunities.
- Support the development and execution of a multi-year financial planning framework that supports growth, capital investment, and operational excellence.
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, fixed assets, and financial close processes.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a strong internal control environment, including policies, procedures, and audit readiness.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulatory agencies.
- Oversee financial systems strategy, governance, and optimization, ensuring technology supports efficient, accurate, and scalable financial operations.
- Partner with IT and operational leaders to enhance ERP functionality, reporting tools, automation, and data integrity.
- Lead initiatives to streamline processes, improve workflow efficiency, and strengthen data governance across finance functions.
Treasury & Capital Support
- Support treasury operations, including cash management, debt compliance, and investment reporting.
- Contribute to capital planning, financial feasibility analyses, and long-range financial modeling.
- Ensure, in conjunction with the SVP/CFO, alignment between capital deployment, financial performance, and organizational strategy.
Leadership & Culture
- Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing corporate finance team with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Foster strong relationships with hospital CFOs, hospital Sr. Directors of Finance, operational leaders, and clinical partners.
- Champion a culture of financial discipline, transparency, and data-driven decision-making.
Qualifications
Education
- Master of Accountancy required.
- CPA required.
Experience
- Minimum 10-15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within a multi-site, multi-state healthcare system or similarly complex organization.
- Demonstrated success overseeing accounting in a like sized, multi-facility corporate accounting position.
- Experience leading financial systems modernization or ERP optimization initiatives.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, and drive organizational change.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, healthcare finance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Ability to lead through influence in a matrixed environment.
