Job Description

The Vice Chair, Academic Affairs provides strategic leadership for the department’s academic mission, including research, education, faculty development, and external academic partnerships. Oversees the development and coordination of academic programs and processes, supports graduate medical education initiatives, promotes scholarly activity and translational research, and advances collaborative opportunities with institutional and external partners. Works closely with department leadership, program directors, and operational vice presidents to strengthen academic performance, support faculty advancement, and align academic initiatives with departmental and organizational goals.

The position entails:

• Leads the development of all academic processes (clinical research, peer reviewed publications, local/state/national/international academic strategies, coordination of system training programs, committee and officer positions, compliance, institutional relationships, vendor relationships, etc.).
• Coordinates with chief’s schedule for Grand Rounds presentations, conferences, and seminars.
• Leads development of collaborative opportunities in both clinical research and academic program development with MSU.
• Coordinates educational opportunities at MSU for research and academic development.
• Fosters growth and development of translational research in coordination with basic science researchers.
• Encourages and develops national academic opportunities (officers, committees, platform/poster presentations, course development, etc.).
• Leads coordination of academic, clinical research activities in JV with Ascension.
• Assists with recruitment within the department for faculty, and support staff.
• Work in tandem with Inpatient and Outpatient VPs to address faculty needs and divisional academic development.

Qualifications

• Medical degree and board certification in Neurology.
• Significant experience in a leadership role within a Neurology Department.
• Significant experience in a leadership role with research and Graduate Medical Education preferred.
• Strong clinical skills and academic performance.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and safety standards.
