Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ergonomist with industrial and applied ergonomics experience to support a handful of Apex’s key clients. Projects are scattered nationwide and will involve a wide range of routine ergonomic support as well as providing quality deliverables in a timely manner. This is a part‑time, traveling role (up to 50%) with expenses covered, ideal for an experienced professional who excels in practical, field‑based ergonomics and enjoys working directly with groups such as operations, safety, engineering, facilities, labor, leadership and other stakeholders.

The Senior Ergonomist leads the delivery of comprehensive ergonomic services, including assessments, solution design, and end‑to‑end implementation. This role partners closely with clients to identify risk factors, develop innovative and practical interventions, and drive projects through completion. While the primary focus is within industrial manufacturing and warehouse environments, the position also supports a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple industries. The Senior Ergonomist plays a key role in reducing musculoskeletal injury risk, optimizing operational performance, and advancing overall workforce health and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct on‑site ergonomic assessments in industrial environments (e.g., manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, logistics, construction, utilities).
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize ergonomic risk factors related to manual material handling, repetitive tasks, awkward postures, vibration, and forceful exertions.
  • Develop practical, cost‑effective ergonomic solutions, including engineering controls, administrative controls, and tool/equipment recommendations.
  • Collaborate with EHS, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to implement ergonomic improvements.
  • Apply published design standards on workstation design, equipment selection, process changes, and job/task design.
  • Support injury prevention efforts, including analysis of MSD trends, root cause investigations, and return‑to‑work accommodations.
  • Prepare concise technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations either within our clients’ various reporting systems or as a standalone report.
  • Stay current on ergonomics standards, best practices, and regulatory expectations relevant to industrial work.
  • Support and maintain strong communications between our clients and our Apex leadership.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional ergonomics experience, with an emphasis on industrial settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in manual material handling analysis, task and job hazard analysis, and ergonomic assessment tools (e.g., REBA, RULA, NIOSH Lifting Equation, Strain Index).
  • Proven ability to manage projects resulting in implementation of solutions that objectively improve injury risk or process efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and influence front‑line workers through senior leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly (with per diem expenses covered) for assignments ranging from a few days to multi‑week stays across the U.S.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (e.g., CPE, CIE, CSP, CIH, PT, OT).
  • Experience working within EHS or injury prevention programs.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, automation, heavy equipment, and material handling systems.
  • Experience supporting multi‑site or enterprise‑level ergonomics programs.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs/ladders, and observe physical work activities.
  • Ability to lift light equipment (e.g., measurement tools, laptops).
  • Willingness to travel frequently (up to 50%) including overnight stays; travel may include longer duration trips (weeks and possible months).

Why you will want to work at Apex

  • Company‑subsidized medical and dental.
  • Company‑paid life, short, and long‑term disability.
  • 401(k) match, tuition assistance, and more.
  • Cross‑training and the ability to work on a variety of projects.
  • Performance‑based bonuses or other incentives.
  • 2000+ employee national firm with 50+ locations across the U.S.

Job Location

Seattle / Puget Sound area is optimal, but remote support could be acceptable with travel (easy access to an airport is a must). Travel will be up to 50% with variation depending on the stage of the project and need for on‑site presence.

Compensation

As a part‑time variable role, the hourly salary range for this role is $60/hr – $80/hr (commensurate based on experience).
