American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for an Oncology Chemo Certified unit requiring active Chemo (ONS/ONCC) certification and a Maryland or Compact RN license.
Requirements
- Active Maryland RN license or Compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of current, relevant nursing experience required
- Chemo (ONS/ONCC) certification required at time of submission
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Meditech charting experience preferred
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line and PICC line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience managing oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation, hemorrhage, sepsis, and spinal cord compression
- Experience with chemotherapy administration, continuous infusion, oral administration, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Experience with symptom management including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and skin/mucous membrane alterations
- Experience administering antibiotics, antiemetics, and corticosteroids
- Experience caring for patients with brain, breast, lung, multiple myeloma, and pancreatic cancers
- Skills in isolation precautions/PPE, neutropenic precautions, phlebotomy, wound care, and tracheostomy care preferred
- Post-surgical care experience
- Proof of residency required matching candidate's licensure
Responsibilities
- Inpatient oncology unit with 12 patient beds specializing in Oncology, Thoracic and Bariatric surgery
- Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours (7:00 PM-7:30 AM)
- Rotating holidays and weekends required
- Block scheduling not available
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required as needed to Med/Surg/Tele units
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Utilizes Meditech charting system
- Performs chemotherapy administration and chest tube care and management
- Provide comprehensive oncology nursing care including chemotherapy administration and management of oncologic emergencies
- Support patients undergoing thoracic and bariatric surgery in addition to oncology care
- Deliver psychosocial care including patient/family education, advanced directives, and hospice care support
- Manage pain through IV push narcotic administration, PCA pump management, and transdermal patch application
- Must work two of the three winter holidays
- Facility is a smoke-free environment
- First-time travelers will be considered based on experience
- No radius rule for this facility, with the same rate applying to local travelers
- RTO must be submitted with application and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
- Non-billable online training modules required prior to start, averaging 4-5 hours and completed no later than one week before start
