Therapist I

The Therapist I reports to the Supervisor of Behavioral Health Therapy and/or Manager of Behavioral Health Operations. The Therapist I provides complete patient assessments, plans for therapeutic interventions and appropriate follow up care, implementing treatment plans, coordination of the treatment process and discharge planning under the supervision of a licensed therapist. Also demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age and cultural diversity of the patients served. In addition, the therapist will uphold and demonstrate the UVA Mission, Vision and Values: Compassion, Diversity, Personal Excellence, and Teamwork. The Therapist I will work under the supervision required by their specific license and/or state board requirements.

Qualifications
Education:

Graduate Degree required. Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field.

Experience:

1 year of experience (including internships or pre-doctorate residencies) preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure:

Licensure: Supervisee in Social Work, Resident in Counseling or Psychology Resident. Applicants who plan to obtain post-graduate training must register as a resident in psychology prior to beginning supervision and make application at the time of the registration of residency (VA Only) required. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 3 months of hire required. BLS within 3 months of hire required.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required:

Good working knowledge of computers. Ability to care for behavioral health and substance used disorder age-specific populations.

    • Utilizes relationship building skills through rounding to provide training and coaching to team members on how to effectively connect with patients.

  • Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members, leadership, and community providers.

    • Collaborates with leaders and other team members for positive experiences for patients.
  • Behavioral Health Expertise: Has a deep knowledge of psychiatric medications, psychiatric diagnosis, mental health concepts, and evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments.
    • Implements treatment plan using best practice modalities and interventions to obtain optimal patient outcomes.
    • Establishes and maintains control of violent patients, defends self and others against violent assaults, and reacts appropriately during a psychiatric crisis.
    • Continues professional development and assumes responsibility as a self-directed professional for continuing education.

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is $26.35 - $40.09 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
