Exemplifying its depth and versatility in the bridge space, Michael Baker International, ranked Number Five by Engineering News-Record in its annual ranking of Bridge Design Firms in the United States, has partnered with clients on a full spectrum of bridge types-from conventional grade separations to major, complex river crossings, including trusses, arches, box girders and cable-stayed bridges.What We're Looking For:Michael Baker is growing and strengthening our Bridge practice and is seeking a motivated and dynamic Technical Manager to join our Minneapolis Bridge Team. In this role, you will partner closely with the department manager and play a key leadership role in delivering impactful transportation projects for MnDOT, other State DOTs, and local agencies.This position is based in Minneapolis, MN, with the option of a hybrid work schedule (2 days in office required).

It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced bridge professional who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring others, and contributing to the growth of a collaborative and respected practice.What You'll Do:Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and techniciansServe as a technical lead on bridge and transportation structure projects at the local, regional, and national levelLead technical discussions with clients and act as a trusted advisorOversee production and technical quality for a designated team, ensuring project successPerform and oversee advanced structural analyses and design effortsMonitor all bridge?related projects within the office and offer support when technical challenges ariseLead multiple teams and/or large projects, mentoring staff and supporting professional developmentEnsure project quality standards, schedules, and deadlines are metPrepare scopes of work and cost estimates for proposals and pursuitsContribute to proposal development, capture planning, and shortlist presentationsBuild, maintain, and strengthen client relationships while supporting business development effortsCoordinate and review work performed by internal staff and subconsultant design teamsCollaborate with engineers, planners, and multidisciplinary teams to develop project strategies and teaming arrangementsParticipate in internal and external professional development activitiesWhat You Need to Succeed:Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field10+ years of progressively responsible experience in bridge design and transportation structuresMaster's degree or higher is preferredMinnesota Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 monthsPE or SE licensure in additional states is a plusStrong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codesExperience delivering bridge projects for MnDOT and local agenciesDemonstrated experience managing transportation projects from both technical and financial perspectivesExperience with alternative delivery methods is preferredDesign experience with multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, including staged construction analysisFamiliarity with load rating and structural analysis software such as BrR, MIDAS, and/or LARSAProficiency with Microsoft Office and related programsExcellent organizational skills and ability to lead and supervise engineering staffStrong leadership, project management, and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to mentor and develop engineering staffAbility to build strong client relationships and contribute to business development and proposal effortsCompensation:The approximate compensation range for this position is $106,577 to $153,889. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
