Novogradac & Company LLP is a national certified public accounting and consulting firm seeking a Tax Manager. Join our fast‑growing team to manage tax assignments and mentor staff while strengthening client relationships.

Position Summary

The Tax Manager will manage tax assignments as designated by the Principal or Partner, working independently with minimal supervision. The role focuses on supervising and mentoring staff, solving problems, strengthening client relationships, and increasing office profitability.

Contributions and Responsibilities

  • Assume primary responsibility for client engagements, including planning, staffing, timing, technical issues, and other decisions. Oversee completion of engagements, identifying and solving problem areas during the engagement, with minimal oversight.
  • Conduct thorough engagement reviews.
  • Supervise and mentor Supervisors, Senior Accountants and Staff, guiding them in technical areas, identifying professional development opportunities, and maintaining a respectful team atmosphere.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for assigned staff and manage employee performance conversations.
  • Assist Principals and Partners with identifying, meeting, and pursuing new clients.
  • Find opportunities to turn acquired technical knowledge into high‑value opportunities for Firm clients.
  • Promote the Firm’s image by participating on conference panels, contributing to Firm publications, attending recruiting events, and conducting in‑house and client trainings.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the value of enhancing the Novogradac brand by fostering collegial relationships with Partners, employees, clients and prospects.
  • Develop, strengthen and grow client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness and service‑oriented approach.
  • Enhance skills in the industries the Firm focuses on by seeking out and completing training courses.
  • Increase office profitability by managing your time and the time of Staff and Senior Accountants efficiently, contributing ideas and adding value.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting or finance (advanced degree is a plus), and 3–7+ years of experience in public accounting and/or a balance of education and work experience.
  • CPA license required.
  • Expert understanding of accounting and tax rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity.
  • Strong personal, technical and professional judgment.
  • Accurate work with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and follow‑through skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage a fast‑paced and varied workload.
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and adjust accordingly.
  • Team‑oriented collaboration skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel) and report‑writing tools.
  • Professional demeanor with coworkers and clients.
  • Build confidence of the existing Partner group.
  • Meet internal Firm deadlines (time entry, billing, etc.).
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed and travel domestically if required.
  • Experience with affordable housing, LIHTC, OZ, RETC, HTC, HUD, NMTC, real‑estate development, partnerships, housing authorities, public housing authorities, CDFI, CDE, property compliance, nonprofit, single audit, Uniform Guidance, A‑133, forecasting, cost segregation, Year 15 Exit, tax‑exempt bond, and HOME programs is helpful but not mandatory.
