Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Project Director to lead and oversee multiple complex projects from award through completion. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for directing a team of Project Managers, driving project performance, maintaining client relationships, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in structural steel fabrication, construction, and industrial projects, along with exceptional leadership, communication, and operational management skills.

What you’ll Do

  • Direct and oversee multiple structural steel and industrial construction projects simultaneously.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Project Managers to ensure successful project execution.
  • Assign projects and resources based on workload, expertise, and project requirements.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual obligations.
  • Monitor project performance, risks, schedules, and financial outcomes.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead meetings, project reviews, and executive-level reporting.

Operational Coordination

  • Coordinate activities between drafting, detailing, fabrication, field erection, and project management teams.
  • Review project proposals, scopes, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Manage subcontractor requirements and project execution strategies.
  • Conduct job site visits as needed to ensure project objectives are being met.
  • Monitor project budgets, cost controls, forecasts, and profitability.
  • Manage Schedule of Values (SOV) and monthly project billings/certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and financial targets.

Preconstruction & Technical Review

  • Review construction documents, specifications, and plans for constructability.
  • Collaborate with estimators, detailers, and project teams during preconstruction.
  • Identify project risks, technical challenges, and opportunities for improved execution.
  • Champion process improvements and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Support the professional growth and development of team members.
  • Contribute to the company's culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Project Management within construction, structural steel fabrication, or industrial projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards including: API, AISC, COSP, ASME, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, Additional project-specific codes and specifications.
  • Proficiency with: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills English and Spanish.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with executives, clients, project teams, and field personnel.
  • Willingness and ability to relocate to Puerto Rico or Florida.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years leading major projects in structural steel fabrication, industrial, or heavy construction environments.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification or equivalent project management credential.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing project portfolios.
  • Familiarity with: Bluebeam, Tekla EPM, AutoCAD/CAD software, Construction management software platforms.
