Structural Engineering ManagerAECOM is seeking a Structural Engineering Manager (Team Lead) to be based in Denver, CO. This role is a key leadership position within AECOM's Buildings + Places structural engineering practice, combining advanced technical leadership with people management, project delivery accountability, and practice development responsibilities.The Structural Engineering Manager will lead and grow a team of structural engineers supporting projects across commercial, aviation, federal, industrial, technology, and adaptive reuse markets. Typical project scales range from $5M–$500M in construction value, with opportunities to contribute to larger, complex programs. This role is ideal for a senior structural engineer ready to expand their leadership impact while remaining technically engaged in complex design challenges.Join our award-winning Buildings + Places team and play a critical role in shaping project outcomes, developing future leaders, and advancing AECOM's structural engineering practice in the Rocky Mountain region.This position serves as a trusted technical and people leader within the structural discipline. You will directly influence how structural engineering services are delivered, mentor and develop engineers at all stages of their careers, and help position AECOM as a technical leader in seismic design, retrofit, and complex building systems.

The role offers significant autonomy, visibility, and opportunity to shape both projects and people.Responsibilities include:Serve as the structural discipline lead and formal Quality Control owner for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with AECOM standards and industry codesLead structural design on mid-size projects and major scopes on large, complex projectsPerform and review advanced structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reportsProvide expertise in seismic analysis and retrofit design, including ASCE 41, performance-based design, and complex lateral systemsOversee construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and technical issue resolutionRepresent structural engineering in client meetings, interdisciplinary coordination, and design reviewsLead and manage structural engineering teams (typically 2–6 staff), including workload planning, delegation, technical oversight, and mentoringSupport hiring, onboarding, professional development, and performance feedback for Engineer I–III staffServe as a technical advisor and mentor, supporting engineers toward licensure and future leadership rolesFoster a culture of quality, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the structural teamSupport workforce planning and coordination with department and discipline leadershipBe accountable for structural discipline delivery on assigned projects, including quality, schedule, and budget performanceContribute to technical proposals, pursuit strategies, scope definitions, and interviewsSupport and strengthen client relationships through trusted technical leadershipAssist discipline leadership with development of best practices, tools, and delivery approachesContribute to technical thought leadership, including internal knowledge sharing, white papers, presentations, or technical initiativesCollaborate with structural teams across the West region and other AECOM offices, sharing expertise and supporting complex pursuitsParticipate in shaping regional technical standards, seismic expertise, and innovation initiatives within the Buildings + Places practiceThis role provides a clear pathway toward Senior Engineering Manager, Discipline Lead, or broader multidisciplinary leadership roles within AECOM's Buildings + Places practice. The position offers ongoing opportunities to expand leadership scope, technical influence, and regional impact.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited program8+ years of progressive structural engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationPreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in Structural Engineering12+ years of progressive experienceLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Colorado or ability to obtain via comity within 6 monthsDemonstrated experience with IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, TMS 402/602, NDSAdvanced proficiency in structural analysis software (ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural, RISA, SAFE, or similar)Experience designing structures using concrete, steel, masonry, and timberStrong background in wind and seismic lateral systems, including retrofit of existing structuresProficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft OfficeStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to perform site visits; valid driver's license requiredStructural Engineer (SE) license, particularly in high-seismic regionsExperience with performance-based seismic design and nonlinear analysisAdvanced BIM coordination and Revit modeling experienceExperience with aviation, federal, or large commercial projectsPrior experience in a team lead, supervisory, or mentoring-heavy roleAdditional InformationDue to the nature of the work, sponsorship is not available for this position.This position requires a hybrid work schedule with regular in-office presence in Denver, CO.
