Structural Engineer

The Building Engineering Services (BES) group of MN/WI is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This is a terrific opportunity for a mid-career engineer to tackle a new challenge and help build a team in a new office. You will lead work independently on a wide variety of projects across numerous market sectors including healthcare, civic, tech, commercial, water, and light industrial projects, many of which are in high-seismic areas. You will be mentored by experienced and talented structural engineers in the Twin Cities and across the country, and have the opportunity to mentor and develop earlier-career engineers.
In the role of Structural Engineer, we'll count on you to:
- Collaborate with architects and other engineering discipline leads to develop designs and drive projects forward, working independently and/or leading small project teams and mentoring EIT's.
- Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project
- Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
- Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project sites in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
- Take responsibility for coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule
- Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents.
- Perform site visits and lead construction administration efforts.
- Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
- Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines and best practices/industry standards.
- Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering; Structural emphasis
- 5-8 years of progressive structural engineering experience on projects of similar scale and complexity to HDR's.
- Strong communication skills and emerging leadership aptitude with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- Structural Engineer (SE) License or qualification via NCEES exam to obtain SE in Illinois.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Previous structural engineer experience
- Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
