Job Overview

TD Thornton is seeking a Sr. Project Controls Analyst with scheduling expertise to join our team. You’ll control the scope, cost, and schedule for a portfolio of large-scale construction projects, often exceeding $25 million in value. This hybrid role combines the flexibility of remote work with on-site collaboration and meetings as needed across the Bay Area, including locations in San Francisco, Pittsburg, Oakland, San Jose, and Monterey.

Your Day-to-Day Activities

Plan and Organize:

  • Develop and maintain project schedules, defining activities, work breakdown structures, predecessors/successors, resources, and baselines using Primavera P6
  • Input financial forecast data and provide analysis using tools like SAP Support project managers in preparing business cases, contingency releases, and managing project budgets within established governance rules
  • Monitor and update cash flow projections

Analyze:

  • Analyze and report on variances in project costs and schedules
  • Create and maintain reporting tools, including Excel-like spreadsheets, for clear communication with stakeholders
  • Measure progress on activities and milestones in project schedules

Execute:

  • Assist with the execution and administration of contracts, including processing change orders and validating accruals
  • Support meetings and calls with project team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment
  • Help project managers hold team members accountable for action items

Communicate:

  • Prepare and present timely updates to project managers and supervisors
  • Keep all stakeholders informed of project developments through meeting minutes, action logs, and status reports

Manage Risk:

  • Support the project team in identifying, resolving, and tracking risks
  • Escalate risks and issues to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget

Qualifications

  • 3–4 years of scheduling experience, proficient in Primavera P6
  • A Bachelor’s degree
  • Construction experience, preferably on projects $25M
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to explain variances, monitor contractor schedules, and track project progress
  • A self-starter attitude with excellent organizational skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with SAP, NetSuite, or Sage
  • Familiarity with Unifier or Project Wise software
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification
  • Cost analysis skills and attention to detail
  • A passion for training and mentoring others

Additional Requirements

Candidates preferably reside in Northern California to accommodate site visits and in-person meetings. Availability to work in a hybrid model with flexibility for more frequent on-site engagement.
