Job TitleThe Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) of the University of Rochester is a unique national resource for research and education in science and technology focusing on using lasers to initiate fusion and high energy density physics.The LLE Electronics and Controls Engineering group is seeking an experienced high-speed analog electronics design engineer to design and support custom high-speed/high-bandwidth electrical circuits and systems used on high power experimental laser systems.The candidate will be working independently with scientists and engineers from other disciplines in a team environment writing requirements, presenting project reviews, designing/fielding custom equipment, and documenting final assemblies. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Electrical Engineering and 3 years of experience or MSEE and 6 years of experience or equivalent training and experience.Requirements include the ability to demonstrate a theoretical and hands-on knowledge of the following:Design, assembly, documentation, testing and troubleshooting electronic circuits and systemsLaboratory electrical measurement techniques, including high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and RF or microwave test equipmentCAD schematic captureComponent level circuit design and troubleshootingCircuit simulation with SPICE or equivalentUnderstanding of lumped and distributed circuit analysisAbility to work to a budget and scheduleDesired skills or experience includes:Strong documentation skillsWorking knowledge of high-speed circuit board layout concepts, including grounding/shielding, microstrip transmission line, and reduction of parasitic elementsExperience with nanosecond/picosecond timing and measurementExperience in a project management roleProject budgeting and time managementCuriosity and a desire to learn new concepts, skills, and techniquesThe University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving an inclusive and welcoming culture to advance the University's Mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create – and Make the World Ever Better.
