As an Engineering Manager focusing on cloud infrastructure systems, you will lead a team responsible for maintaining and enhancing critical platforms that power Apple's cloud ecosystem. Your team's work will directly impact the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of how cloud resources operate across Apple, enabling significant cost savings while ensuring teams have the tools and capabilities they need to launch new products and features. You'll work cross-functionally with finance, product, SRE, and platform teams to ensure system reliability and performance while driving the roadmap for next-generation capabilities.ResponsibilitiesLead and grow a team of engineers responsible for critical infrastructure systems and platformsDrive the technical vision and roadmap for your team's domain within the infrastructure ecosystemPartner with stakeholders across the organization to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutionsEstablish best practices for code quality, system design, and operational excellenceMentor and develop engineers, conducting regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development discussionsParticipate in incident response and lead post-mortems to drive continuous improvementCollaborate with cross-functional teams including SRE, finance, and product to ensure alignment on prioritiesBalance technical debt reduction with feature development to maintain system healthChampion engineering best practices across the broader organizationDrive adoption of new technologies and methodologies to improve system efficiency and reliabilityYour team will be responsible for:Building and maintaining infrastructure platforms that enable critical business capabilitiesImplementing robust systems that ensure efficient operation at Apple scaleDeveloping tools and automation to improve operational efficiencyCreating self-service platforms and APIs for internal customersEnsuring high availability and performance of critical infrastructure systemsDriving standardization and best practices across the infrastructure landscapeMinimum QualificationsProven experience leading backend engineering teams, with a focus on infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems3+ years of people management experience with a track record of building and developing high-performing teamsStrong technical background with hands-on experience in languages such as Java or GoLangDeep understanding of large-scale distributed systems and infrastructure platformsExperience building and operating mission-critical systems at scaleProficiency in database design and management (SQL and NoSQL)Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)Knowledge of distributed systems, networking concepts, and infrastructure as codeExcellent leadership and communication skills with ability to influence without authorityPreferred QualificationsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision makingExperience driving technical strategy and roadmap planningBS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science / related fields or equivalent workPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
The base pay range for this role is between $195,700 and $338,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
