Overview
We are working with a U.S.-based medical device company developing point-of-care diagnostic systems that will be used in hospital laboratories across the U.S. and EU. Their core product delivers coagulation results in minutes rather than hours , supporting treatment decisions for patients on anticoagulant therapies. They are hiring a Software Engineer to work directly on the embedded software that runs on these deployed diagnostic devices. This is a product-facing role: code written in this position ships to regulated medical hardware used daily in clinical environments.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain embedded and application-level software for a point-of-care diagnostic device
- Implement features in ANSI C++ using Qt5 on a Linux-based touchscreen system
- Interface software with hardware components including optical sensors, barcode scanners, USB devices, heaters, and accelerometers
- Work daily with hardware engineers and assay scientists to align software behavior with physical and biochemical constraints
- Write and maintain design documentation, test plans, and verification reports required for regulated medical devices
- Support debugging, system testing, and production software tools
- Participate in software risk analysis and verification activities under FDA / ISO quality systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience writing production C++ code
- Familiarity with Qt (Qt5 preferred) or equivalent C++ GUI frameworks
- Experience working close to hardware (peripherals, sensors, device interfaces)
- Ability to troubleshoot issues spanning software, electronics, and physical devices
