Job TitleSimIS Inc. is currently recruiting for the listed position and is contingent upon award.Job DescriptionThe ideal candidate will support U.S. military Modeling & Simulation (M&S) efforts with intermediate-level responsibilities in the design, development, integration, and maintenance of simulation systems used for training, analysis, and decision support in defense environments at our Suffolk, Virginia headquarters.
The candidate will work with some independence while collaborating with senior developers and contributing to software architecture decisions. This role requires solid experience in software engineering and growing understanding of military systems, simulation standards, and real-time/constructive simulations.The candidate performs the following specific assignments:Designs, implements, and maintains simulation software for military training and analysisContributes to software architecture decisions and technical design reviewsIntegrates models and simulations with C4ISR systems, data sources, and external interfaces using DIS, HLA, and DDS protocolsTranslates operational military requirements into scalable and reusable software componentsDevelops and tests simulation scenarios, models, and system behaviors to meet fidelity and performance requirementsCollaborates with systems engineers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and military users to validate simulation capabilitiesEnsures compliance with software development standards, security guidelines, and configuration management practicesContributes to technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manualsMentors junior developers and participates in code reviewsSupports system integration testing and troubleshootingParticipates in requirements analysis and system design activitiesExperience RequiredMaster's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fieldOR Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years of relevant software development experienceAt least 2 years of software development experience, with exposure to M&S domain preferredProficiency in multiple programming languages: C++, C#, Java, or PythonExperience with simulation frameworks such as HLA, DIS, or similar M&S toolsUnderstanding of software engineering best practices including Agile/Scrum methodologiesExperience DesiredExperience with DoD M&S standards and tools (STOW, RTI, SISO standards)Knowledge of CI/CD practices and version control systemsUnderstanding of military doctrine, tactics, and operational scenariosExperience with GIS, terrain databases, or synthetic environment generationFamiliarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)Experience with distributed systems and real-time processingSpecial Skills/Knowledge/Training Required/DesiredStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent communication and collaboration abilitiesAbility to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong debugging and troubleshooting skillsExperience with software testing and quality assurance practicesBenefitsMedical, Dental, and VisionShort-Term Disability (at no cost to you) & Long-Term DisabilityLife Insurance401(k) Savings PlanFlex Spending AccountsTuition Assistance ProgramProfessional DevelopmentPaid Time Off (PTO)11 Federal Holidays each yearSimIS, Inc. is an EOE / M / F / Disability / VET / Drug Free Employer
