Senior Traffic Engineer

GPI is seeking an experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our growing Transportation practice in Columbia, MD. This leadership opportunity is ideal for a motivated professional who thrives on solving complex traffic and mobility challenges while leading projects, mentoring staff, and building strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering and transportation planning projects for state, county, and municipal clients.
• Perform and oversee traffic impact studies, operational analyses, safety studies, signal design, and corridor evaluations.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables while ensuring technical excellence.
• Develop traffic modeling and simulation analyses using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and support staff development initiatives.
• Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation, and client presentations.
• Support strategic growth initiatives within the transportation practice.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 8+ years of traffic engineering and transportation planning experience.
• Experience with traffic operations, roadway safety analyses, traffic signal systems, and transportation studies.
• Proficiency with Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, TransModeler, or similar traffic analysis software.
• Familiarity with Maryland DOT, local agency standards, and MUTCD requirements preferred.
• Strong project management, client development, and team leadership skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
