Our work spans three areas:
- Ventures: Investing in founders, funds, and the Detroit innovation economy.
- Works: Developing and stewarding place-based real estate.
- Culture: Supporting artists, events, brands, and cultural projects.
Song United provides the shared platform and governance behind this work, alongside Minor Capital and its subsidiaries. We are a small, hands-on team guided by justice, courage, belonging, and a long-term commitment to the communities we serve.
The Problems You Will Help Solve
You will work across architecture, design, real estate, and leasing to help the Works Team operate as a coordinated whole. Your challenge is to connect people, information, and decisions so competing priorities and missed handoffs do not slow progress.
- Close the gaps between teams. Connect design priorities with real estate and leasing needs. Maintain shared schedules, clarify dependencies and responsibilities, and surface conflicts early so teams can move forward together.
- Turn decisions into action. Prepare agendas and materials, document decisions, and track commitments with clear owners and deadlines. Coordinate smaller projects and initiatives, flagging obstacles and following through on outstanding work.
- Give leaders time to focus. Coordinate calendars, prioritize meeting requests and communications, and prepare correspondence, presentations, and briefing materials. Anticipate what the Head of Place and Managing Director of Real Estate need to make decisions and keep work moving.
- Build reliable team operations. Create practical systems for project information, correspondence, and records. Keep purchase order requests, invoices, and expense approvals moving, and coordinate meeting, event, and community-program logistics with colleagues and partners.
What You Will Bring
- At least seven years of experience in real estate, city building, or related fields, including supporting leaders or coordinating complex projects.
- Experience connecting teams with different priorities and translating discussions into clear responsibilities and completed work. Exposure to architecture, design, development, or leasing is especially valuable.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, including preparing correspondence, presentations, and concise research summaries.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage sensitive information and build relationships across all levels.
- Comfort with hands-on administrative work, shifting priorities, and working independently. Proficiency with Mac platforms and Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience, with a commitment to Detroit and community-rooted work.
What Success Looks Like
Success means architecture, design, real estate, and leasing teams share a clear understanding of priorities, responsibilities, and next steps. Decisions are documented, commitments are tracked, and scheduling or information gaps are resolved before they delay work.
You will create dependable ways of working that help leaders stay focused and the Works Team deliver on its projects and community commitments.
Location and Working Model
This role is based in Detroit, Michigan, with close collaboration across Works Team leadership, colleagues, and external partners. Occasional early or late hours and travel may be required.
