Job Description

Optical Engineer focusing on fiber optic devices and free space optics.

Responsibilities

  • Have a good understanding of optical components, free space optics, fiber optic devices and fiber collimator coupling.
  • Source and select optical components.
  • Build prototypes based on optical designs.
  • Characterize fiber optic devices and conduct troubleshooting.
  • Generate build and test reports.
  • Develop SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Participate in product qualification and reliability activities.
  • Transfer new products to manufacturing and support production.

Education & Experience

BS or MS in engineering or related technical fields. 7–15 years of related experience.

Skills

  • Good understanding of basic optical components and fiber optic devices.
  • Ability to work with little supervision and manage assigned tasks and projects effectively.
  • Ability to read, learn and analyze complex materials and processes, search for solutions in the public domain and create innovative solutions.
  • Leveraging knowledge and experience to solve problems resourcefully.
  • Proactive collaboration with external suppliers within areas of expertise.
  • Effectively managing multiple priorities and projects.
  • Ability to teach and train others within the work group.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, email and internet; ability to develop tools and applications within these packages.
  • Fiber optic experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with UV epoxies is a plus.
  • Fiber optical module package is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Good office working conditions and Class 10000 clean‑room environment; wearing smock with mask and gloves.

Physical Requirements

Able to move light equipment and tooling (<25 lbs) as needed when setting up manufacturing stations.

Safety Requirements
