Senior Mechanical EngineerIMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Detroit, MI to lead large and highly complex mechanical projects for the vertical building industry, with a strong focus on HVAC systems. In this role, you will provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client guidance while leading engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems.You'll also mentor and train less experienced staff, collaborate across disciplines, manage project budgets, and have the opportunity to grow through a technical, project management, marketing, or business development leadership path.Principal ResponsibilitiesLead design efforts for the analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systemsCreate detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standardsPerform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reportsPartner with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build strong relationshipsConduct in-process design reviews of system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence while applying IMEG quality control processesProvide technical training, mentoring, and field issue support with minimal support from senior staffLead research, development, and innovation efforts while staying current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practicesIdentify and mitigate potential safety risks and prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering workCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutionsLead project interviews and presentationsRequired Qualifications and SkillsBachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, requiredProfessional Engineer (PE) License required7 years of experience minimum required, in the building design consulting industryMastery of design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specificationsMastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systemsStrong training, mentoring and leadership skillsAbility to perform final quality control check in their area of expertiseAbility to sell work and develop client relationshipsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groupsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentAttention to detail and problem-solving skillsEagerness to adapt to new challengesProficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and OutlookAbility to travel up to 25% with occasional overnight staysThis position is not eligible for sponsorship.Why Join UsIMEG puts people first—with a strong focus on career growth, work-life balance, and meaningful impact.
