Responsibilities
- Handle a project from first estimate through formalization of subcontracts.
- Look beyond provided information, ask questions, and deliver a complete cost evaluation.
- Act as a collaborative and passionate advocate for customers, empowering and informing them throughout the project.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex cost, lead‑time, trade partner, and product/material challenges.
- Make reliable cost predictions and estimate across all scopes of work.
- Prepare detailed conceptual cost estimates and studies from schematic or feasibility documentation.
- Develop variance summaries between estimates and value‑engineering studies as design evolves.
- Assemble a complete, presentation‑worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost.
- Collaborate with the project team to establish staffing and project requirements.
- Understand unit costs and factors affecting construction cost.
- Prepare detailed instructions to bidders, trade‑specific clarifications, and comprehensive bid packages.
- Manage the bidding process: solicit bids, communicate with bidders, evaluate proposals, and use bid tally sheets.
- Recommend subcontractor awards and negotiate/finalize subcontracts with trade partners.
- Lead preparation and presentation of cost/budget information to the customer/owner.
- Participate as a member of the team for RFP responses and formal presentations.
- Engage and develop business with new and existing customers.
- Lead value‑engineering sessions with the project and design teams.
- Review construction contracts to identify key insurance and damage clauses.
- Lead, manage, and motivate project teams during the preconstruction phase.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience as a commercial construction estimator, preferably within DPR’s core markets.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; estimating software (WinEst, Timberline or similar); take‑off software (On‑Screen Takeoff or similar); BIM tools (Revit, Assemble, etc.); project management software (CMiC or similar); and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- Excellent listening and strong communication skills.
- Creative and innovative problem‑solving abilities on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Ability to identify, adapt to, and resolve complex issues.
- Effective team player with both external and internal teammates.
- Flexible, detail‑oriented, able to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and meet deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Strong work ethic and a can‑do attitude.
Salary & Benefits
This position is salaried with an anticipated starting pay range of $150,000.00–$210,000.00. The company offers medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits.
