Job Summary
Senior Data Scientist at Walmart Global Tech – Sunnyvale, CA. The Revenue and Marketing Data Science Team develops machine‑learning and AI solutions for marketing, advertising, and social commerce, helping Walmart and partners connect with customers through personalized, AI‑driven experiences.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply state‑of‑the‑art deep‑learning generative models and multi‑modal models such as text, image, and video generation, capturing multimodal data relationships.
- Evaluate trade‑offs between open‑source and cloud APIs for multimodal Gen‑AI in terms of performance and cost efficiencies.
- Work with large‑scale data and curate in‑house domain datasets from scratch.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define interfaces, understand dependencies, and resolve integration challenges.
- Standardize and build scalable, highly available systems following operational best practices.
- Develop visualizations and reports to communicate model results and insights to business teams effectively.
- Maintain world‑class academic credentials through patents, publications, conference presentations, and external collaboration.
Qualifications
- Expertise in deep‑learning based generative/multi‑modal models or comparable research experience.
- Experience with multimodal generative models for text, image, audio, and video.
- Experience with vision‑language models (VLMs) for classification, detection, segmentation, keypoint detection, and similarity tasks.
- Experience developing models for multimodal synthetic data generation.
- Experience fine‑tuning and deploying large deep‑learning models.
- Experience with prompt engineering and agentic AI design.
- Strong proficiency in Python and data‑science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch, etc.).
- Advanced degree in computer science, statistics, data science, mathematics, or a related field; PhD a plus.
- Publications in top ML/AI/NLP conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, CVPR) a plus.
- Familiarity with Java, Python, Bash, PyTorch, BigQuery, SQL, distributed training, GPU MLOps, CI/CD, FAISS, vector stores, and agent SDKs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with 3 years of analytics experience.
- Master’s degree with 1 year of analytics experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in an analytics or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of data science and machine‑learning techniques, optimization models, and proficiency in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
- Experience implementing web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2 AA) and creating inclusive digital experiences.
