THE POSITION
The Bureau of Accounting and Financial Management offers an exciting chance to flex your analytical and leadership skills as a Senior Accountant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports accurate financial oversight by reviewing accounting work, preparing federal reports, and guiding agencies on key fiscal requirements. It also strengthens statewide accountability by ensuring that financial practices meet legal and regulatory standards. As a Senior Accountant, you will perform the following duties:
  • Financial Review: Examine accounting activities to confirm compliance with required state and federal rules
  • Grant Oversight: Track grant activity and verify reporting, matching, and closing steps for assigned programs
  • Report Development: Prepare federal financial statements and other key reports for regular and annual cycles
  • Process Leadership: Guide projects and improve procedures while supporting the unit manager
  • Staff Guidance: Support and direct assigned staff to strengthen team performance
  • Audit Support: Collaborate with auditors and review findings to protect federal funding

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time, with occasional in-office days when work dictates such requirements. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.   • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $69,086.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as an Accountant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, and graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Four years of bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting may be substituted for college graduation. A Master's degree in Accounting or a related field may be substituted for one year of general work experience.
