About The Unit

The Short Stay Unit/Observation Unit is a 50‑bed unit (private rooms) specialized in caring for the adult population with a variety of diagnoses. It employs a multi‑disciplinary team approach to deliver care, treatment, and discharge planning within 23 hours. Patients may arrive from the Emergency Center, Operating Room, procedural areas, directly from home, or from their primary care physician’s office. The unit includes 20 telemetry beds for cardiac monitoring and focuses on “All Non‑Critical Specialties.” The team works diligently to transition patients to their next care area (home, placement, admission, or procedural area).

Scope of Work

The RN utilizes the ANA scope of practice and nursing process to provide professional nursing care, incorporating patient‑family centered principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN works under the direction of the Nurse Leader, following Corewell Health policies and procedures, and recognizes the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care, develops teaching strategies for patients/families, and documents education and learning in the health record.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing required
• Bachelor's in Nursing required within 5 years
• Graduates from a non‑accredited nursing school must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health‑care role and must have passed the NCLEX
• Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) required
• Adams‑Premier or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire
• Specialty certification highly recommended within 2 years
