Job Summary
The RN participates as a member of the health care team in delivering quality health care to patients, supporting Kaiser Permanente’s mission, vision, and values. The RN provides a variety of nursing services in person and/or by phone utilizing the nursing process and leadership skills to address acute and chronic needs of Health Plan members and other patients of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Program. The RN works under the general direction of the designated supervisor. This is an on‑call position supporting Rockwood, Mt. Talbert, and East Interstate Medical Offices.

- Provide evidence‑based, clinically competent nursing care across the care continuum, including triage, telephone advice, medication administration, and documentation that meets standards.
- Apply effective oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict‑management skills.
- Recognize the impact of systems on health‑care delivery, facilitating coordination across all settings and functioning within interdisciplinary teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum two (2) years of RN experience within the last five (5) years or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente NW Ambulatory RN New Grad/Transition to Practice program.
- Minimum three (3) years of recent (within past five (5) years) Labor and Delivery or outpatient OBGYN experience in performing fetal non‑stress tests or current certification in electronic fetal monitoring (C‑EFM) from the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school and possession of a high school diploma or GED.
- Registered Nurse license (Washington) within 6 months of hire OR Compact RN license within 6 months of hire; Registered Nurse license (Oregon) required within 6 months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
- Credentials from the primary work state required at hire; credentials from secondary work state(s) required post‑hire.
Additional Requirements
- Demonstrates clinical nursing and leadership skills.
- Typing speed of 20 words per minute.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to learn computerized information systems.
- Ability to work within teams and within a dynamic work environment.
- Customer focused.
- Experienced in oral, SQ, IM, and IV medication administration (where required).
- Non‑stress testing competency.
- Competent in venipuncture skills for locations where required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with population care/case management, triage, and advice.
- Current or future bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of Labor and Delivery or outpatient OBGYN experience in performing fetal non‑stress tests.
- Previous L&D setting experience of three (3) years or greater preferred.
- Experience with protocols for rendering advice preferred.
- Certification as competent in performing antenatal testing, including limited ultrasound preferred.
- Use of electronic medical record technology preferred.
- Competent in new insulin starts preferred.
- Well versed in care of pregnant diabetic patients and trained in gestational diabetes management preferred.
