Research Scientist — Robotics 🤖🔬

📍 Seattle, Washington

I’m looking for a Research Scientist to join an AI research organisation developing the foundations of more capable, adaptable robots.

The team is tackling questions around how robots learn new skills, handle unfamiliar environments and transfer capabilities from simulation onto physical hardware.

This is an opportunity to develop original research, test your ideas on real systems and share your findings openly.

What you’ll work on:

• Robotics foundation models and their ability to generalise across tasks and environments.

• Robot manipulation, skill learning and sim-to-real transfer.

• Large-scale simulation experiments and evaluation on physical robots.

• Open models, datasets, benchmarks and research tools.

• Leading research projects, collaborating with university partners and mentoring emerging researchers.

What I’m looking for:

• A strong research foundation, typically at PhD level, in robotics, AI or a related field.

• Depth in one or more of: manipulation, planning and control, reinforcement learning, imitation learning, simulation, world models or foundation models.

• A strong publication record in relevant robotics, computer vision or machine learning venues.

• Strong software engineering skills, with experience using real robot systems and/or deep learning frameworks.

Experience with distributed training, data curation, model efficiency or open-source research libraries would also be valuable.

Why consider it?

You’ll work alongside experienced researchers and engineers, with scope to take ownership of ambitious projects and publish without restrictions. The organisation also places value on collaboration, continued learning and a healthy work-life balance.

I’m keen to hear from researchers in industry, as well as strong PhD and postdoctoral candidates with relevant practical experience.

Interested? Message me or send your resume and a couple of representative publications to jack@thejam.io
