Overview
Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the 2 South Acute Telemetry Unit , a full‑time position based in Suffolk, VA. The unit is a 25‑bed cardiac telemetry unit caring for patients with heart failure, rhythm disturbances, implanted devices, post‑coronary interventions, stroke, and neuro cases. The unit operates on two shifts with rotating weekend coverage:
- Day Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. (rotating weekend schedule)
- Night Shift: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. (rotating weekend schedule)
Sign‑on bonuses are available: up to $20,000 for qualified night‑shift candidates and up to $15,000 for qualified day‑shift candidates.
Unit Details
The 2 South Acute Cardiac unit provides high‑acuity care in a ratio of 1:6 with assistance from Patient Care Techs. It is preparing to transition to a Cardiac PCU step‑down by year’s end. Sentara Obici is a certified stroke center and holds Magnet designation for excellence in patient care, offering a collaborative environment for growth in cardiac and neuro care.

Job Responsibilities
The RN will perform competent nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, and health promotion). Responsibilities also include ethical practice, culturally congruent care, effective communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence‑based practice, quality improvement, resource utilization, and environmental health.
Education & Credentials
- Degree or Diploma from an accredited Registered Nursing Program
- BSN or MSN preferred
- Students currently completing an accredited nursing program (post‑licensure)
Certifications & Licensure
- Registered Nursing License (students in process of obtaining)
- BLS within 90 days of hire
- ACLS for Critical Care/IMCU within 1 year of hire
- NIH within 1 year of hire
Experience
- Acute care nursing experience preferred
- Background in Stroke or Telemetry preferred
- None required (new graduates welcome)
