Radiologic TechnologistUnder general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares them for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examination. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary. Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structures of patients, sets up equipment, and performs the CT scan.

Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Administers intravenous contrast media, including utilization of power injectors. Monitors patients for possible reactions and provides immediate care if a reaction occurs. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for procedures. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assists in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as biopsies. Performs all imaging procedures by demonstrating the principles of radiation protection.

May involve shielding of patients and selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose. Uses other ALARA techniques as necessary. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into PACS. Completes all study indexing, including study begin, study end, and completion of the study in the Radiology Information System. Reviews and confirms clinical protocols before performing studies as necessary. Demonstrates on a consistent basis team member standards of excellence. Performs all documentation in the medical record as necessary to support clinical and billing functions.

Works in a hospital or ambulatory mobile unit. May be potentially exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized. May be exposed to high-voltage equipment and potentially contagious patients. Occasionally may lift and/or move equipment or patients in excess of 10 lbs.
