Our client, the global leader in technology-enabled claims and risk management solutions, is hiring multiple Progress / OpenEdge Developers to support and enhance critical enterprise applications.

This is a hands-on development role focused on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving established Progress/OpenEdge applications that support complex business operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Progress OpenEdge (version 12 preferred), PASOE, and AIX/Unix environments, along with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and develop effective solutions. They're looking for developers that enjoy problem-solving, have strong debugging skills, and thrive in a large, fast-paced organization undergoing significant transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, test, debug, and enhance software applications using Progress/OpenEdge in a Windows client/server environment.
- Design, code, test, document, and maintain programs based on business and technical requirements.
- Troubleshoot complex application issues, investigate root causes, and resolve escalations from IT support teams.
- Develop and support Progress-hosted web services, APIs, and application integrations.
- Work with OpenEdge databases, Oracle PL/SQL, and other relevant platforms to support application functionality.
- Design and support application architecture, including three-tier architectures and application servers.
- Analyze and optimize application performance through debugging, performance tuning, and code improvements.
- Utilize UNIX shell scripting to execute and support OpenEdge programs.
- Analyze user needs and translate business requirements into technical specifications and solutions.
- Become familiar with various aspects of the application, including claims management, intake services, reporting, parameters, and carrier/client/vendor interfaces.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive hands-on development experience with Progress / OpenEdge, preferably version 12.
- Experience with PASOE (Progress Application Server for OpenEdge).
- Strong experience with Progress WebSpeed and Object-Oriented OpenEdge programming.
- Experience with AIX / Unix environments and UNIX shell scripting.
- Strong knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL.
- Experience developing and supporting APIs and web services for OpenEdge databases.
- Understanding of three-tier architecture and application server environments.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, error handling, and application performance tuning skills.
- Experience supporting and maintaining complex enterprise applications.
- Working knowledge of HTML and JavaScript.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 8+ years of hands-on software development experience, including at least 5 years working with Progress/OpenEdge.
- Experience with OpenEdge Application Development Environment (ADE).
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL, .NET, and other enterprise application platforms.
- Background in insurance, claims management, or other complex business application environments.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach to application support and development.
