Mechanical/Substation Technician

Bus Field TechnicianWe're looking for Bus Field Technicians who are excited to grow their careers while supporting critical energy infrastructure projects across the U.S. This hands-on field role offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of job sites, including power plants, hydroelectric dams, and large-scale industrial facilities. You'll focus on systems such as Isolated Phase Bus Ducts, Non-Segregated Bus Ducts, and Generator Circuit Breakers, and will be responsible for mechanical project scopes, including demo, layout, rigging, setting, and welding aluminum conductors.What You'll Do:Work independently with minimal supervisionCollaborate with assigned crews and other trades on-siteInterpret construction, welding, and electrical drawings, and read measurements per layout plansDetermine appropriate welding methods and set up components according to job specsRig, lift, align, and fit electrical bus equipment as directed by drawings and specsWeld aluminum components in multiple positions (vertical, horizontal, overhead – 6G test required)Maintain tools and welding equipment in a safe working conditionInspect, inventory, and organize parts and components for installationPerform maintenance and inspection of existing equipment for defects or deteriorationOperate electrical test equipment, including Hi-Pot, Ductor, and MeggerFill out daily timesheets and job reportsOperate company vehicles and follow RMS Energy's safety and driving policiesFollow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areasThe Experience We're Looking For:0-3 years of aluminum welding experience (MIG required, TIG preferred)Familiarity with medium and high voltage electrical equipmentAbility to read and interpret technical documents and drawingsKnowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper PPE usage, including working at heightsExperience with substation construction or electrical bus installation is preferredProficient in operating forklifts, manlifts, and similar field equipmentAdditional Requirements:Willingness to travel up to 75% across the continental U.S.High school diploma or GED requiredValid driver's licenseMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug testsAvailable for extended and irregular hours as neededAble to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment and heavy machineryPhysically capable of lifting 50+ lbs and enduring extended physical activityRequires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environmentsBonus Points for:Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certificationTWIC CardCDL LicensePrior experience working with Isolated Phase Bus Ducts, Non-Segregated Bus Ducts, and Generator Circuit BreakersWhy Join RMS Energy:Competitive Compensation – Overtime potential and merit-based raisesFull Benefits – Medical, dental, and vision coverage fully paid for employees, starting the month after hireSteady Employment & Career Growth – Be part of a fast-growing company with promotion potential401(k) with Company Match – Traditional & Roth options + free investment guidanceTop-Tier Equipment – Provided to support you in the fieldCompensated Travel Time plus Per Diem – Earn while seeing new placesEducation Support – Paid training, certifications, and industry membershipsGenerous PTO – Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leaveEmployee Assistance Program – Legal, financial, and mental wellness supportWant to be part of something meaningful?
