Physician (Neurologist)

Summary

Full‑time Neurologist assigned to the Acute Care and Specialties Service Line at Central Alabama VA Medical Center, with potential locations in Montgomery, Tuskegee, or outlying CBOCs. Responsible for clinical care of neurological patients, administrative and management functions, and participation in community outreach and health promotion activities.

Duties

• Diagnose and treat peripheral nerve disease, including loss of muscle function, sensory deficits, and speech or vision impairment.
• Conduct neurological examinations to assess basic brain function and evaluate individual peripheral nerve groups.
• Manage patients with seizures, motor deficits, or severe speech impairment.
• Identify the location and cause of neurological problems through clinical examination and history.
• Recognize early symptoms to treat disease at incipient stages and improve patient outcomes.
• Work 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (standard schedule).

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship (non‑citizens may be appointed only when no qualified citizens are available).
• Full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Completion of an approved core residency training program leading to board certification (or meeting equivalent experience requirements).
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Background/security investigation, drug testing, and physical examination required.
• Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program.
• Compliance with Selective Service registration for eligible males.
• Ability to complete on‑line onboarding and identification verification.
• Acceptance of a probationary period if required.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board certification or eligibility in Neurology.
• Completed residency training in neurology or an equivalent clinical training experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience

• Completion of a neurologic residency and board certification.

Physical Requirements

The role requires good visual acuity, hearing, clear speech, and manual dexterity. The position involves prolonged sitting, walking, standing, stooping, bending, and occasional lifting or moving equipment.
