Scope of responsibilities includes performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities; ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Responsibilities
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics.
Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints, respond to customer requests in a timely manner and answer non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices.
Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to provide the best experience when using the pharmacy. Enhance customer experience with a focus on healthcare services.
Assist pharmacist in the delivery of patient care including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications for patients, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Complete patient and physician calls under the supervision of a pharmacist and, where allowed by law, assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines and health screenings.
Under the guidelines of authorized company policies and laws, delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy; ensure tasks are completed on time and hold others accountable for efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
Manage core pharmacy workflow and drive excellence in pharmacy operations. Coordinate daily schedule, allocate pharmacy hours, and ensure the pharmacy is clean, neat, and stocked with adequate supplies.
Exercise independent judgment to ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and pharmacy inventory management tasks that do not require pharmacist licensure. Manage annual inventory preparation.
Complete non-clinical patient calls.
Drive technology/process rollouts, champion change, and engage the team around action planning. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of pharmacy department equipment. In collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager, manage recordkeeping and security safeguards.
Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities and understand the role in ensuring compliance with Good Faith Dispensing elements.
Maintain asset protection techniques and monitor diversion; report concerns that could compromise pharmacy security to the Pharmacy Manager.
Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and adhere to policies and procedures related to errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement Program.
Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues, prevent payment rejections, follow up with insurance companies and providers, and participate in third-party audits.
Assist and support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
Manage Community Outreach Portal and, at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, assign pharmacists to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including making decisions on discipline and termination. Follow constructive discipline policies and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness. Improve performance through team engagement and action planning.
Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling. Monitor training completion and enforce policy for scheduling and training.
Identify knowledge gaps in pharmacy operations among team members and support training through hands-on coaching or learning modules.
Assist Pharmacy Manager in monitoring licensure, registrations, and certifications; ensure active status and compliance with regulatory requirements; use Walgreens resources to document licensure status.
Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training as required by company policy and local, state, and federal laws.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and/or state-required certifications/registrations.
Maintain and enhance current knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare.
Obtain necessary certifications and training as required by the company; follow performance improvement plans offered by Pharmacy Manager.
Seek professional development, solicit constructive feedback, and leverage a supervisor as mentor and coach.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from the support center or other key emails as required.
Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including quick daily huddles and weekly check-ins with the Store Manager.
Qualifications
External Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous people management/leadership experience.
Experience at Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on the last performance evaluation.
