Financial CounselorUW Medicine Insurance Eligibility and Financial Counseling Services Team (IECS) has an outstanding opportunity for a Financial Counselor.Work Schedule:100% FTE (40 hours per week)Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pmDay ShiftOnsite at Harborview Medical Center / Ground West LobbyHybrid after a 6-month probation periodPosition Highlights:This is an onsite position for the first 6 months, with potential for transitioning to a hybrid work schedule upon successful completion of the probationary periodParticipate in interviewing patients to determine appropriate insurance coverage and/or Financial AssistanceRefer uninsured patients for Medicaid/Financial eligibility screeningPrepare estimates of fees upon request from Patient Care ConsultantsReview payment options with patientsPrimary Job Responsibilities:Interview patients and determine appropriate insurance opportunitiesComplete applications which include Health Care Exchange, Medicaid, Medicaid Expansion, and Medicare Part DManage and resolve a high volume of phone inquiries and referralsManage all aspects of UW Medicine's Financial Assistance application processAppropriately assess patient's needs and potential funding and obtain and verify insurance through various web toolsDocument progress of each case in Epic notesPrepare price estimates and collect paymentsDemonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rightsMaintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials in printed, electronic, or verbal formAccess and use the minimum necessary patient-identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties for authorized purposes onlyInterpret hospital policies, procedures, and services to patients, patient representatives, and inter/intra-hospital departments and community facilitiesPerform work that supports patient financial relations, resolution of billing problems, and the financial assessment protocols of UW MedicinePerform other related duties as requiredRequirements:High school diploma or GED certificateOne year of experience in a medical office settingAn equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirementsAbout UW Medicine – Where Your Impact Goes Further:UW Medicine is Washington's only health system that includes a top-rated medical school and an internationally recognized research center.
