After School Care Assistant
Position Available: Assist the After School Site Coordinator with all activities involving the safe and effective operation of an after-school program. Provides assistance in the supervision and instruction of children, leads age-appropriate activities, assists students with homework, and performs duties assigned by the Site Coordinator.
Minimum Qualification Standards: Knowledge, skills, and abilities include leading and assisting students in indoor and outdoor games and activities, using a variety of equipment and classroom tools, interpersonal communication, language ability, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, and manual dexterity.
Education, Training, and Experience: School age care experience preferred, associates degree preferred, high school diploma required, and/or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certification and License Requirements: Basic School Age Care (BSAC) and playground safety CPR/First Aid.
Special Requirements: Ability to work flexible hours for occasional morning meetings, training, early release days, and late pickups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of Pender County Schools, along with state and federal regulations; work with after school staff to establish and maintain a safe, caring, and vibrant learning environment; set-up after school centers daily, maintain a tidy area, and clear away at the end of the day; monitor and interact with children during program activities; assist with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating after school activities; administer first aid to children as required for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs; maintain current certifications in CPR and basic first aid; attend meetings, workshops, classes, seminars, conferences, etc. to meet training requirements; perform related duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator and/or Principal.
Working Conditions: Physical demands include lifting up to 20 lbs. from floor to waist height and reacting to a student who is 20-30 feet away within 30 seconds. Work environment includes being in a school environment and coming into direct contact with staff and students.
