Job TitleUnder direct supervision, perform a variety of tasks related to daily lab operations and productionEssential FunctionsPerform department tasks including one or more of the following:Operate and maintain finishing equipment including edgers, blockers, tracersInterpret and verify lens prescriptions, frame specifications, and work ordersInventory control functions to include assist with stocking lens shelves, sort and distribute trays, pull semi-finished or finished lenses, perform cosmetic inspection and restockLens stocking duties include print and tray up jobs off the combob, pull lenses and transcribe digital jobs through the lab management system, stage work in designated areas, and assist with lens stocking and inventoryOperate the automatic taper; perform lens blocking, layout, and alignment to ensure optical accuracyTint edged and uncut lenses; edge and mount lenses into a variety of frame types (metal, plastic, rimless, drill mount)Expeditor functions including flagging work to movePre-shipping wash-up functions including providing needed masks/cloths; conduct final inspections for cosmetic defects, proper fit, and prescription accuracyAssist in efficiently moving work through the department; collaborate with lab team members and supervisors to ensure workflow efficiencyMaintain company safety standardsMaintain a clean workstation; maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab and equipmentAssist and cooperate with other departmentsEnsure understanding and adherence to quality management and safety requirements, systems, and proceduresOther duties as assignedJob SpecificationsTypically has the following skills or abilities:Experience working in a fast-paced environmentOne to two years of manufacturing, production, or optical tech experienceMust be able to work any shift, time, and dayAbility to meet department standards for productivity and qualityAbility to communicate at a level necessary to accomplish the above tasksGood manual dexterity and hand/eye coordinationAbility to perform physical activities requiring bending, kneeling and pulling/pushingAbility to recognize and distinguish colorsAbility to understand and follow proceduresAbility to lift up to 30 poundsAbility to walk or stand up to 100% of the timeFor roles that are remote (i.e., Work From Home (WFM)) or hybrid (i.e., partial onsite at a VSP location and WFM), must demonstrate a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings to support effective communication and team alignmentWorking ConditionsThe working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust etc.The working environment is well lighted and ventilated. Individuals are typically required to stand for long periods of time.
Noise and dust from power-grinding machinery and other equipment is to be expected. Individuals may wear safety attire such as goggles and gloves and may work physically close to others, such as when sharing work areas.
