Job Summary

Job ID , Position # . The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in General Dentistry. The role provides general patient care at an off‑site clinical facility hosted by the Mercer University School of Medicine that treats adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Must be eligible for GA State dental or faculty license. Facility address: 750 Hazel Street, Macon, GA 31201.

This position is not on a tenure track.

Abilities

Competent patient care: effective interprofessional collaboration and efficient clinic management including patient record keeping in compliance with institutional and governmental policies.

Knowledge

Previous teaching or mentoring experience with clinicians and clinical staff, ability to recognize the need to refer patients for specialty dental treatment and familiarity with digital dentistry workflows.

Skills

Organizational and communication skills as an oral health clinician in support of interdisciplinary patient care.

Responsibilities

Clinical/Patient Care – 80%

Provide comprehensive general dental treatment for patients in outpatient and hospital settings at the Mercer University School of Medicine Center for Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Macon, GA as part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Augusta University/Dental College of Georgia and Mercer University.

Service – 20%

Participate in relevant DCG and Mercer University School of Medicine committees or councils, provide administrative oversight for patient records and complete required annual compliance training as assigned by Augusta University and the Mercer School of Medicine.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an ADA accredited dental school or have 5 years of clinical experience and be licensed in or eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry. Proof of completed academic degree in the form of an original transcript is required.

Effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams of health care providers (physicians, nurses, therapists, etc.).

General dentistry experience and at least 3 years of experience treating special needs patients with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (IDD).

Faculty Rank Requirements

  • Assistant Professor – Early career with appropriate background, education, and training.
  • Associate Professor – Mid career with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor and appropriate qualifications.
  • Professor – Senior career with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor and appropriate qualifications.

Required faculty employment qualifications: SACSCOC accreditation compliance; evidence of teaching ability; evidence of scholarly activity and ability in all other duties; successful experience (waived for entry‑level faculty who meet all other requirements); desirable personal qualities assessed via interview, biographical data, and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with advanced technologies and digital workflow.

Significant clinical experience, post‑graduate training in general dentistry or prior experience in dental education and a working knowledge of practice management strategies and all aspects of clinical general dentistry.

Shift, Salary and Benefits

Fiscal year based, works year‑round. Full‑time equivalent (FTE): 1.0. Salary commensurate with education, experience, and achievements; subject to availability of funds. Conditions of Employment

Pass a background check. Credit check may be required for positions of trust or for use of departmental purchase card. Motor vehicle reports required for positions that require driving an Augusta University vehicle.
