The elementary school office assistant provides general clerical and secretarial support to the school site, communicating information to staff and to the public, providing complete and accurate records and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.Highline Public Schools serves students and families in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac and White Center in Washington state. forms, office supplies, etc.).Monitors students referred for illness or disciplinary action ensuring student welfare and maintaining a secure office environment.Performs a variety of general office work (e.g. answers phones, filing, copying, order and inventory of supplies, equipment repair requests, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to staff, parents, internal and external parties.Prepares and proofreads a variety of documents (e.g. schedules, reports, bulletins, correspondence, memos, monthly newsletters, calendars, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to staff, parents, internal and external parties.Processes documents and materials (e.g. attendance reports, student enrollment reports, purchase orders, receipts, work orders, truancy petitions, etc.) to disseminate information to other parties in compliance with administrative and/or regulatory requirements.Other FunctionsPerforms other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of clerical experience. Preferred qualifications include previous experience working in a K-12 public school district and previous experience working with children.The condition of employment includes a criminal background clearance, valid driver's license and proof of insurance, First Aid and CPR certification within 90 days of hire, and all certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines (absent exemption) as required for this position by state and local authorities.Knowledge of basic math, English grammar and punctuation, recordkeeping practices, modern office practices and procedures, modern office equipment including microcomputers and related software, school attendance records policy and practice, and school board policies and procedures is required.Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, operate a variety of modern office equipment including microcomputers and related software, maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community, work collaboratively with school and central office administrators, parents, and community members, demonstrate keyboarding skills, organize work, problem solve and select action plans, remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations, attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion, perform basic math calculations quickly and accurately, maintain excellent attendance and punctuality, and comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures is required.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
