Responsibilities

• Under general supervision, perform quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
• Analyze test results and prepare samples for testing.
• Calculate test findings and maintain records.
• Prepare and determine validity of solutions, reagents, media stains, and various materials in the testing process.
• Process and test all types of laboratory specimens; review and report lab results; perform operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment; act as a resource to other laboratory personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR ; or have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination prior to 2/28/92, 42 CFR .
• Prefer 6 months to 1 year medical laboratory technologist, clinical laboratory scientist experience in an acute care facility.
• Registered or eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire; equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non‑US trained personnel completed within 30 days of hire; licensure as required by State.

Skills Required

• Analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results.
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with all areas of physician office.
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate various types of laboratory equipment.
• Ability to closely examine specimens.

Facility Description

DMC Sinai‑Grace Hospital is the largest hospital in the DMC system offering a comprehensive heart center, cancer care, gerontology, emergency medicine, obstetrics/gynecology and cosmetic services. The hospital’s joint replacement program features minimally invasive knee and hip replacement surgeries that attract patients nationwide and operates more than 21 outpatient care sites and ambulatory surgery centers throughout Wayne and Oakland Counties.
