Emphasis of the work is on assisting physicians in the examination and treatment of patients and performing a variety of clerical tasks. Incumbents report directly to the Office Manager of the practice and is supervised by a provider when performing medical related duties.ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Duties (may include but not limited to):Using computer applicationsanswering telephoneswelcoming patientsupdating and filing patient medical recordcoding and filling out insurance formsscheduling appointmentarranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services; handling correspondence, billing and bookkeepingObtain authorization for ancillary and/or surgical proceduresAssist patients who call the office with post-op questions or concernsClinical Duties (may include but not limited to):Taking medical historiesPreparing patients for examinationAssisting the physician during exams and certain proceduresCollecting and preparing laboratory specimensPerforming basic laboratory testsDrawing bloodTaking electrocardiogramsBring patients into the exam room and obtain basic medical information - height, weight, BP, and pulse.

Review medical history, family history, surgical history, and current medications with each patientPerform blood draws, ECGs, and other tests as needed. Responsible for cleaning exam rooms and maintaining them with adequate suppliesMay perform other advanced clinical duties under direction and supervision of a nurse or a physician, as needed based on assigned unitDemonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assignedGenerally, requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.High school diploma is required.Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant by the American Society of Medical Technologies preferred.
