Job Title: Environmental Health and Safety Lecturer
Job Description Summary
Oakland University is seeking a passionate and dedicated instructor to teach a senior‑level ergonomics course to students in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Master of Science in Safety Management (MSSM) programs. The course focuses on ergonomics and related change management concepts, anthropometry, biomechanics, metabolic energy expenditure, capabilities and limitations of workers; design and analysis of the workplace, hand tools, controls and products; applications of the NIOSH lifting guidelines and other standards. The ideal candidate will have expertise in biomechanics and/or ergonomics, with experience practicing ergonomics in industrial settings.
Responsibilities
- Develop and teach a course on ergonomics that covers everything from functional anatomy through anthropometry, ergonomics risk factors, to assessment and risk mitigation.
- Engage students in completing actual ergonomics assessments and gaining hands‑on experience in practicing ergonomics in their communities.
- Maintain student engagement and active participation in a fully‑online course environment.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student success.
- Address and assess the student learning outcomes stated in the syllabus, and issue timely course grades.
- Remain available for student meetings and inquiries, hosting online office hours and tutorials as needed.
- Adhere to the general terms outlined for lecturers and follow the University guidelines for instruction and grading as stated in the university catalog.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Biomechanics, Ergonomics, or Environmental Health and Safety (with ergonomics specialty credentials/certificates).
- Preference will be given to applicants with a proven track record of teaching high‑quality, online courses.
