We are currently seeking an Sr. Network Engineer to join our Corporate team located in Sterling, Virginia.
Qualified candidates must reside within a 25 mile commute to Sterling as this is a 100% onsite position.The Senior Network Engineer will be part of Network team responsible to design, deploy and maintain scalable, highly available network infrastructure spanning across multiple co-location facilities that support nearly 10,000 users and growing. This position will be responsible for providing advanced technical and engineering support for IT infrastructure and customer facing services. Use infrastructure tools and techniques to quickly identify and successfully resolve infrastructure, operational requests and issues while acting as an escalation point for corporate IT departments.Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesDeploy, configure, manage and monitor network infrastructure (LAN, WAN) for high availability optimal performance as well as network security featuresInstall, set up and upgrade firmware on network equipment.
Perform periodical preventative maintenance of networking equipment software/firmware.Provide engineering support to install, configure, optimize, troubleshoot, monitor and manage deployment of Cisco routers, switches and FortiGate firewallsServe as the network/security subject matter expert around Fortinet technologies and solutionsDeploy and manage virtual networks and support cloud infrastructureAutomate network monitoring to provide a proactive approach to mitigate network issuesCreate and maintain all required network and technical documentation including diagrams and troubleshooting methodologies using provided toolsPrepare network asset management including maintenance of network component inventory and technical specificationsAnswer, evaluate and prioritize network incidents/tickets as they relate to outage escalation. Participate in triaging and resolving Tier 4 requestsPerform network packet capture and analyze to troubleshoot and debug network issuesKeep stakeholders and project managers apprised of project status throughout the project life cycle with detailed and thorough communicationLiaise with vendors, customers and other IT personnel for problem resolutionSelf-motivated with the ability to follow directions, complete time-sensitive tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervisionIdentify opportunities to implement improvements and increased efficiencies on existing infrastructureIdentifies and addresses network related vulnerabilities and establishes a process to mitigate themEstablish, document, and maintain network technical standards, baseline configurations, and support processes and proceduresFulfill routine communication requirements. Utilize ticketing system to document and manage client requests/issues and follow change management policies and proceduresFollows and adheres to simple and complex instructions, including SOP's.Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environmentWilling and able to travel for on-site installationsFlexibility to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays, as neededOther duties as assigned or requiredQualificationsBachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field preferred.
Equivalent work experience will also be considered10 years or more of experience in a corporate IT operations environment5 years' hands-on experience in installing, configuring and troubleshooting networking technologies including switches, routers, and firewallsMust have experience with IPsec tunnel configuration, routing tables, dynamic routing and network troubleshootingExperience in the setup of DMZ and/or multi-layer network zones per data/information classificationExperience in designing and leading the implementation of small to medium scale projectsExperience with Fortinet technologies such as FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer, etcExperience with Service Provider/Datacenter class Cisco ASR/ISR routers and Nexus switchesExperience with building hybrid environments to span existing on-prem datacenters and Azure/AWSExperience working with and designing disaster recovery datacenter solutionsExperience with packet capture and network monitoring tools such as PRTGExperience with Cisco Meraki switches, WAPs and dashboardDeep understanding of networking technologies and protocols such as, L2/L3 Routing/Switching, IPSEC, BGP, MPLS, VRF, QoS, Spanning-Tree, OSPF, 802.11, ACL, DHCP, TCP/IP, DNSAbility to develop network topology, wire diagram and document detailed lab test plans and reportsExperience with established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to network infrastructure during critical maintenance windowKnowledge of Carrier Services WAN, MPLS, DIA, etc is a plusCertificationsFortinet technologies (NSE 4 or higher preferred)CCNP or higher preferredPhysical Demands/Working ConditionsMust be able to lift and/or move up to 30 lbs of equipment.
