The University of Tennessee Health Center, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine in Memphis, TN is hiring for a full‑time, tenure‑track Associate Professor position.

Overview

We seek an experienced clinician‑investigator with a passion for patient‑centered outcomes, quality improvement (QI), and population health research. The candidate will join a growing, dynamic faculty team, have a secondary appointment in the Department of Preventive Medicine, and will focus primarily on conducting pragmatic clinical and population health research.

Responsibilities

• Teach clinical, research, and clinic courses; supervise procedure oversight and resident queries as needed.
• Conduct pragmatic clinical and health services research in collaboration with major health systems and community health centers across Tennessee.
• Care for patients at Regional One Health (ROH) Outpatient Center Internal Medicine Clinic and provide oversight for medical students and residents.
• Develop and implement QI projects aimed at improving care for vulnerable populations, including those with obesity, diabetes, or other chronic diseases.
• Train and supervise residents, fellows, and health policy and outcomes research MS and PhD students.
• Obtain sustained, investigator‑initiated external funding to support research activities.

Qualifications

• M.D. with an additional M.P.H., Ph.D., or equivalent degree.
• Board certification or board eligibility in internal medicine.
• Demonstrated scientific accomplishment and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to acquire sustained external, investigator‑initiated research funding.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

• Scholarly work in health services and/or pragmatic clinical research with practical clinical or population health implications.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary research teams to develop and test interventions that improve health systems serving vulnerable populations.
• Participation in or leadership of successful primary care and/or population health research programs.
