Definition&Purpose

Under the supervision of the AssistantDirector—RecreationalProgramsandFacility Operations, theIntermittentFacility Supervisoris responsible forsupporting the safe and efficient operation of ASI facilities and programs. This role serves as the first responder to injuries andleadsemergency response efforts, ensuring facilitiesremainoperationally safe. When full-time staff or a Student Manager are not present, theIntermittentFacility Supervisor provides general safety oversight of ASI programs within the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court. TheIntermittentFacility Supervisor is expected to exercise sound judgment and represent ASI with professionalism and integrity.

This position is based at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy on the Cal Poly Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.

EducationalRequirements&Qualifying Experience

  • Current American Red Cross certification(or equivalent)in the following: AdultFirst Aid,CPR,andAEDisrequiredwithin30 daysof hire, training provided byASI.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to ASI’s insurance underwriters.
  • Supervisory experiencepreferred.
  • Facility security experiencepreferred.
  • Experience with program participation preferred.
  • Excellentorganizational andplanning skills.
  • Excellentoral and written communication skills.
  • Customer service skills andabilityto work witha wide range ofpopulations.
  • Experience with administration, supervision,advisingor public relations.
  • General knowledge of program servicesof the Recreation Center.
  • Experience in leadership or management.
  • Ability to receive constructive criticism to support leadership development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide general oversight ofFrontlineServicesStudent Assistants,Fitness InstructorsandLifeguards.
  • Provide management authority and student staff supervision in the absence of full-time staff members.
  • Supervise program participants’behavior andappropriately intervene when needed.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with staff and co-workers.
  • Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
  • Commitment to student development and leadership.

Essential Duties&Responsibilities

Daily Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Courtby implementing facility-specific policies and clearly communicating expectations to participants.
  • Open, close, and secure facilities atdesignatedtimes.
  • Inspect facilitiesfor safety,maintenance, or custodialconcernsand communicate identified issues withsupervisor.
  • Provide breaks for student staff members, serve as a backup for staff members who cannot attend work, and use the phone liststocover forno-show employees.
  • Compile daily user statisticsandfacilityreports.
  • Make regular roundsbetween ASIfacilities to ensure activities are conducted safely and appropriately.
  • Maintaina welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and participants.
  • Provide quality customer service for all staff and customers.
  • Act as an ASI representative at all timeswith an extensive knowledge of ASI and University programs,facilities,and services.

Program Support

  • Monitoruse ofspaces by reserved groups.
  • Monitorcrowd controlandproactivelyrecognize potential event problems.
  • Prepare all necessary materials and venues for efficient,safe,andservice orientedintramural contests.
  • Maintainaccurateparticipantdocumentation (eligibility, sportsmanship, waivers, results, playoff brackets, etc.).
  • Officiate intramural sports activities as needed.
  • Understand and administer sportsmanship ratings to participants.
  • Adhere to and enforce intramural sports rules and policies.
  • Check participants in and verify registration for intramural sports activities.
  • Provide program promotion and policy education to participants.
  • Set up and take down special equipment (e.g., volleyball nets,audiovisual equipment) at the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court.
  • Assistother ASI staff areas with the preparation and operation of their program area as needed.
  • Attend at least two hours of safety and evacuation training per quarter for the Recreation Center.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings, trainings, workshops, and retreats.

Safety

  • Direct and support the evacuation of the Physical Education and Aquatics Center (PEAC), Bodnar Field, Morrow Cove, and Sport Court during emergencies.
  • Maintain understandingofevacuation routes andeducateparticipants onappropriate procedures.
  • Maintain a calm and focused demeanor tomanage emergencies efficiently and professionally.
  • Respond to first aid situations with confidence, addressing both minor injuries and life-threatening situations effectively.
  • Document all injuries and incidents at ASI facilities with accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Contact University Police when on-site personnel are unable to resolve problems.
  • Ensuretimelyreporting of safety issues or concerns.
  • Supervise ASI programs and events to safeguard the well-being of staff and participants.

Other Duties&Responsibilities

  • The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and isrequiredtocomply withthe requirementsset forth inASI policy as a condition of their employment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Background Check

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) isrequiredfor employment. ASI will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current ASI employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Period of Employment

Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at anytimeand ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.

Compensation&Hours

  • HourlyPay Rate:$17.40per hour
  • Hourly Pay Range: $17.40per hour - $17.40per hour

**Intermittent employees may not work more than1,000 hoursduring any fiscal year (7/1-6/30) and are hired on an “as needed” basis only.
