Role Description The HVAC Construction Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Rochester, NY. This position is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications, preparing detailed HVAC equipment estimates, and developing accurate project cost proposals. Day-to-day tasks include performing quantity take-offs, obtaining and analyzing vendor and subcontractor quotes, and coordinating with sales and project management teams to ensure estimates align with project requirements. The estimator collaborates with the internal salespeople to clarify scope, value-engineer solutions, and update budgets as projects progress. This role also involves maintaining estimating tools and databases, supporting bid preparation, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
Qualifications
- Strong technical knowledge in HVAC, with the ability to interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency with estimating software and MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook), and comfort working with digital plan review platforms.
- Solid analytical, math, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in take-offs and cost calculations.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with engineers, contractors, and internal teams.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced, construction-oriented environment.
- Relevant experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical contracting; prior estimating or design/build experience is a plus.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
