Prototype Engineer
Rework and repair assess condition of returned prototype units and confirm failure mode. Run the prototype unit through a prescribed set of functional tests depending on reported defect, and perform failure analysis to determine root cause. Strategically disassemble the unit, guided by SOPs, and perform a visual inspection of systems that might be related to the failure symptom. Perform component/module exchanges to isolate the failure. Document the work performed on each unit in a thorough, consistent manner. Prototype assembly strong written and verbal communication for documentation and live discussion with engineering teams. Failure analysis quality variations/anomalies solution proposals and repairs assembly/operating instructions (SOPs) provide solutions to teams with electrical, mechanical and software troubleshooting and repair assist with scaled prototype assembly/disassembly and small pre-production units in varying numbers. Prototype QA flash, program and calibrate prototypes or testing equipment following outlined SOPs run software scripts and basic commands using the command line interface of Linux, MacOS, and PC platforms. Not expected to write those scripts. Needs to be familiar with AB Electrical Technician use electronic analysis tools to perform systematic QC of electronic assemblies light soldering to repair electrical components.
Required qualifications ability to adapt to a daily changing statement of work ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks to complete a given statement of work experience with reaching out to responsible design engineers for troubleshooting, clarification, and feedback willingness to propose and implement process improvements (including SOPs) to increase production efficiency proficient use of text, photos, and videos to clearly convey assembly processes to others seek feedback for continuous improvement.
Preferred qualifications strong attention to detail electronic/consumer-electronic repair/debugging experience computer programming experience electrical troubleshooting experience past prototype or assembly line experience particularly in small electronics or devices familiarity with OrCAD/Allegro and other EE hardware design.
