Provides professional accountability and technical support in delivering care for endoscopy patients. Assists with procedure preparation, equipment set-up, and maintaining patient safety standards while supporting the physician and registered nurse. Performs a range of direct and indirect patient care duties, including participation in special or complex procedures as outlined in the career ladder program. All responsibilities are carried out in alignment with Mercy's mission, values, and service standards.
Position Details
We are a specialty procedural area for GI and Pulmonology procedures. We have 5 gastroenterologists and 4 pulmonologists. Our staff covers 2 procedural areas: the outpatient only-area in our physician's plaza building and the hospital procedural area in the main hospital. Both locations have a pre/post unit. The hospital area serves high-risk outpatients, inpatient, and ED patients. Every nurse here trains and works in the 3 nursing roles: admitting nurse, circulating nurse (in the procedure room) and recovery/discharge nurse. We perform 50-60 procedures a day. Our shifts are 8 hours during the weekdays. Full-time and Part-time nurses also take some after-hours call usually consisting of 4 weeknights and one weekend in a 10-week period.
(Level I): 0-1 year of experience /Outpatient Centers and Rural Locations/Non-24-hour opportunity location (primarily an ASC or rural locale)
Education: High-School Diploma or GED are required. You may be asked to provide proof of education.
Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- The Endoscopy Technologist I can successfully participate in lower patient acuity cases AND/OR high-level disinfection.
- Completes one basic competency---Either Endoscopy Tech in Scope room competency OR Endoscopy Tech in Procedure Competency.
Other: Must understand English both written and spoken, must be able to perform job-related functions safely and successfully, with or without reasonable accommodation required by federal, state, or local law.
