Geotechnical Drilling Crew ChiefBraun Intertec is seeking a Geotechnical Drilling Crew Chief to join our Bloomington, MN location.The Crew Chief has primary responsibility for performing subsurface investigations for geotechnical and environmental purposes. A subsurface investigation can involve collecting soil, rock, groundwater samples, and logging the field data. These investigations take place over a wide variety of terrain, conditions, and weather.
The Crew Chief is responsible for all aspects of the drilling operation in the field and aligned reporting requirements.ResponsibilitiesOperate the drill rig and oversee drilling operations for auger borings, rock coring, monitoring wells, instrumentation installation and other types of drilling as requiredKnow when to use different drilling methodsCollect and log factual field data to the specifications and/or job instructions providedKeep a boring/coring log of data and samples obtained and other required informationTraining and supervision of drilling assistant on the drilling siteCommunication with project managers, clients, schedulers and supervisorsResponsible for daily production and efficient use of drill crew's time as required by project scope of workResponsible for maintenance, repair and general condition of the drill rig, support truck and other equipmentMust be able to diagnose mechanical problems and perform necessary repairsResponsible for promoting and adhering to safe work practicesUse required and approved personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing all functionsResponsible for the safety of the drill crew and other site personnelOperate drill rigs, tractor trailers and support vehicles in safe and lawful manner, maintain a valid commercial drivers license with an insurable driving recordMaintain necessary documentation relating to the operation of commercial motor vehiclesDriving of DOT regulated vehicles and all responsibilities and knowledge that is required to stay in compliance with DOT requirementsDaily inspections of equipment to satisfy DOT requirements and the proper record keeping as required by DOT regulationsRequired Skills & ExperienceAt least 2 years of related drilling experience requiredStrong technical and mechanical aptitudeValid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and acceptable driving record required, CDL A preferredAbility to pass a driving / road test40-hour Hazmat Training preferredAbility to work outdoors, in a field / construction work setting, in a physical role, in all types of weather conditions and terrainAbility to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis, 75lbs occasionallyAbility to communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers, clients, and supervisors, while fostering a collaborative and engaging work environmentAbility to pass a pre employment DOT drug screen, criminal background check and motor vehicle record checkDependable, the ability to maintain reliable attendance and work a full-time schedule which sometimes includes weekend and night workMust be available for travel up to 50%, occasionally on short notice, including nights and weekends as needed
