Role and Responsibilities

The Role

The General Superintendent provides overall leadership for field operations and execution for the assigned project(s).

  • Monitor assigned projects for conformance with the construction schedule, expected quality levels, and adherence to the company\'s Standard Operating Procedures
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and architects to generate client satisfaction
  • Recruit qualified talent; mentor, coach, and train personnel to perform and ensure effective matching of talent to project scope (including Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Field Engineers, Career Start Project Engineers and Co-ops)
  • Provide leadership and guidance to field staff regarding materials, sequencing, scheduling, personnel and construction methods
  • Advocate for Field Operations and actively participate in business development efforts
  • Contribute to pre-construction/estimating activities including participating in sales presentations and project reviews
  • Prepare baseline schedules and ensure delivery requirements are met
  • Develop site access, staging/sequencing plans, and conduct technical reviews
  • Assist with budgeting and determining field staff requirements
  • Attend project turnover meetings and provide input on scope reviews
  • Construction: Implement Suffolk policies and procedures, manage field staff, monitor schedules, and ensure workmanship and materials conform to plans and specifications
  • Lead monthly update and narrative processes
  • Oversee baseline schedule development and project schedule compliance
  • Monitor punch lists and warranty issues, ensuring timely closure
  • Client Relationships and Meeting Management: Attend scheduled meetings, engage with owners, maintain continuous client contact, and communicate relevant information to project teams
  • Training: Coordinate field training, ensure staff training per Suffolk guidelines, and participate in design and delivery of Suffolk-specific training

Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering or Construction Management; experience relative to project size/scope
  • Minimum of 15 years of general contracting experience
  • Experience varies by project characteristics; strong industry knowledge for success
  • Applicable area licenses
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Strong business judgment to balance budget and construction processes
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior management and resolve conflicts

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods, communicate verbally, and operate keyboard/phone. The role may involve standing, walking, and reaching, with vision requirements for close and distance work. The work environment is an office setting with occasional site exposure; site visits may be required.
