The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of field safety experience in utilities, construction, aviation, energy, telecommunications, or similar operational environments. Familiarity with aviation safety management principles and Just Culture practices is preferred. Experience with UAS operations is a plus but is not required.

This is an initial six-month W-2 assignment, with potential for extension based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct routine field safety observations, documenting safe practices, potential hazards, and opportunities for improvement.

* Observe aerial UAS operations, mobile LiDAR collection, and vehicle-based field activities.

* Identify unsafe conditions and operational risks, working collaboratively with crews to develop practical corrective actions.

* Verify appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

* Exercise stop-work authority when immediate safety concerns are identified, consistent with company procedures.

* Encourage proactive hazard reporting, open communication, and continuous improvement.

Safety Management and Documentation

* Review daily Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), tailboard meetings, and operational risk assessments.

* Conduct safety observations and document findings, corrective actions, and follow-up activities.

* Support incident and near-miss reporting, investigations, and identification of contributing factors.

* Maintain accurate observation records, incident documentation, and project safety reports.

* Assist project leadership in identifying safety trends and developing risk mitigation strategies.

* Promote Safety Management System (SMS) principles, including proactive risk management, safety assurance, and continuous improvement.

* Support a Just Culture environment that encourages reporting, learning, and accountability without unnecessary blame.

Crew Engagement and Safety Training

* Conduct safety briefings, toolbox talks, and operational safety discussions.

* Provide coaching and practical guidance to field personnel on safe work practices.

* Encourage crew participation in hazard identification and safety improvements.

* Support field teams in understanding risks associated with utility rights-of-way, vehicle operations, aviation activities, and remote work locations.

* Coordinate safety-related follow-up actions with project managers and field supervisors.

* Promote an approachable safety presence that builds trust and encourages personnel to report concerns and near misses.

* Reinforce individual accountability while emphasizing learning and organizational improvement.

Aviation, UAS, and Remote Sensing Operations

* Support safety oversight for unmanned aircraft operations and remote sensing activities.

* Observe ground safety practices, launch and recovery areas, crew positioning, and public exposure risks.

* Assist with identifying operational hazards associated with flight activities near electrical infrastructure and other obstacles.

* Support risk assessments for mobile LiDAR and vehicle-based collection operations.

* Coordinate with UAS pilots and field leadership while respecting the Pilot in Command’s authority over flight operations.

* Encourage aviation safety best practices, effective crew communication, and sound aeronautical decision-making.

Prior UAS or LiDAR experience is beneficial but not required. QAS will provide familiarization with company-specific operations and equipment.

Required Qualifications

* Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain, elevations, and weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

* OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

* Experience supporting electrical utility or transmission and distribution field operations.

* Familiarity with aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS), human factors, and Just Culture principles.

* Experience with field-based hazard observations and behavioral safety programs.

* Familiarity with unmanned aircraft operations, FAA Part 107 regulations, or UAS operational safety.

* Experience with roadside operations and mobile field crews.

* First Aid/CPR certification.

* Experience using digital safety reporting or operational management platforms.
