Estimator
We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join our civil construction team. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for water, sewer, utilities, grading, and earthwork projects. This role requires strong construction and civil estimating experience, familiarity with B2W estimating and takeoff software, and the ability to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to deliver timely bids that support business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil construction projects including water, sewer, utilities, grading, and earthwork.
- Use B2W (or equivalent) estimating software to develop and manage estimates, assemblies, and unit rates.
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and site conditions to identify risks, phasing, and constructability issues.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes; develop bid packages and scopes of work.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field staff to validate assumptions, refine schedules, and optimize costs.
- Maintain and update historical unit cost databases, production rates, and material pricing.
- Prepare bid summaries, estimate documentation, and margin recommendations for management review.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions as required.
- Support post-bid activities including scope clarifications, value engineering, and estimating revisions.
- Ensure estimates comply with contract requirements, bonding limits, and company policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of estimating experience in civil construction with emphasis on water, sewer, utilities, grading, and earthwork.
- Proficiency with B2W estimating software and digital takeoff tools; familiarity with Microsoft Excel and project management software.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, productivity rates, and unit costing.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Proven ability to manage multiple bids and meet tight deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on accuracy.
- Valid drivers license and willingness to attend site visits and meetings as required.
